Taylor’s connection to Niagara-on-the-Lake runs deep, rooted in childhood visits to see her beloved grandparents. During the pandemic, when visits were no longer possible, the absence was profoundly felt. Once restrictions eased, Richard – knowing how much the separation had affected her – planned a fun-filled day in Niagara-on-the-Lake, capped by a surprise dinner with her grandparents, marking their first reunion since the pandemic began. The emotional day ended with an even sweeter surprise: a proposal!
Honouring Taylor’s lifelong bond with the region – and her grandparents, who have since passed away – the couple tied the knot in September 2023, in the very place that held so many treasured memories.

A live pianist and violinist set the tone for the ceremony and cocktail hour, while The Lonely Hearts, a live band, kept the dance floor jumpin’ well into the night. A close family friend officiated the ceremony, with Taylor’s twin brother and Richard’s twin sister standing by as witnesses. “Richard had always wanted a vineyard wedding. It was exactly what he imagined when he was little,” said Taylor.
What a venue!
With its expansive grounds, elegantly draped tent and French-inspired fountain, Château des Charmes – home to more than 40 vintages – offered the perfect backdrop for the romantic garden party Taylor and Richard envisioned. The serene setting transported the couple and their 163 guests straight to old-world France.

Taylor wore a “classic, understated and elegant” Pronovias gown from Lover’s Land in Toronto, while Richard opted for a fully custom tuxedo – made “out of someone’s basement” – lined with playful photos of the bride as a teenager. “Richard did the majority of the planning while I was busy working and writing exams,” said Taylor. “He filled the day with unexpected personal touches.”
