Tamara and Garett’s need for speed has fuelled much of their relationship – from meeting at age 16 at a speed skating competition to becoming members of the same race car team today. So when it came time to find the perfect venue for their December 2025 wedding, they knew they wanted something extraordinary, much like the love they share. They found it in Villa La Joya, a beachfront estate in Playa del Carmen, Mexico where couples must apply for the chance to marry there. Being selected added an even deeper meaning to the day: “It almost felt like the venue chose us just as much as we chose it,” said Tamara.
Details matter:
Instead of a traditional guest book, guests signed Garett’s race car helmet and a commemorative 150th anniversary F1 Pirelli tire – both of which became treasured keepsakes for the couple. Other standout details included floating tiered candles on serpentine tables, a custom monogrammed dance floor, sparklers during the first dance and a spectacular fireworks show to end the night.
Like a queen:
Tamara completed her bridal look with a gorgeous crown, a nod to her Miss Universe roots. Having worn countless gowns in her 15-year pageant career, she knew her wedding dress had to be unique. With its high neckline and dramatic low-cut back, her Dovita Milano gown was both refined and striking.
Deep connections:
Having a destination wedding allowed the couple to spend quality time with loved ones beyond a single day of celebration. What they didn’t anticipate was how deeply the experience would shape future gatherings. “Now, everyone in our lives knows each other, which completely changed the way we celebrate moving forward. That sense of connection is something we’ll always value.”
