Allison and Matthew met at a Thanksgiving party in 2007 in Vancouver, when they were both attending UBC. Three years later in Toronto, where the two ended up, Matthew started following Allison on Twitter. They began to reminisce about the Thanksgiving party where they met, so Matthew invited Allison to Thanksgiving at his family’s home. They began dating three days later. After two years, the two decided to move in together.
Here’s a twist on popping the question! A few months after moving in together, Allison asked Matthew if he wanted to get married and he said yes. A month after that, Matthew gave Allison his grandmother’s engagement ring.
The couple’s favourite wedding moment was their reception. “Right from the moment the music started, people of all ages were on the dance floor, busting a move,” says Allison. “We stayed until the very end of our wedding and we were the last ones to leave the dance floor at 1 a.m. It was special to be alone together at the end of such an amazing day.”
Among the couple’s favourite wedding details were the wedding table numbers (paper flags made by the bride’s sister), the trivia questions guests had to answer to make us kiss, the family style meal (guests passed around large plates of food, which encouraged sharing and conversation), and instead of cake, we had an assortment of pies with vanilla ice cream. “The paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling of the barn were just so pretty,” says Allison.
