Csaba and I met three years ago through YouTube where “It all started with a click”, literally. After an awful breakup I made a response to a popular YouTube video called “51 things around my house”—little did I know that 6000 kms away in a little town in Hungary a boy would see my video and like it so much that he’d subscribe to me! Over the years I made videos and he’d comment on them, but it wasn’t until November of 2011 when I finally added him on Twitter. Well Twitter led to Skype, Skype led to iMessage, and 100 000 messages later, I was on a flight to Hungary to meet a boy I met over the Internet. We instantly fell in love.
In accordance with our simple love story, Csaba upped his amateur video skills and made what we now call ‘the video’. Sneakily, every night he stayed up late to perfectly capture our story as though it were a movie trailer. He then met up with the manager of the local movie theatre in Fredericton and they devised a plan to play it before the actual movie trailers when we all went out for family movie night. So, in front of my family and my best friends (who had shown up to witness my reaction), ‘the video’ started playing.
It starts with Csaba interviewing my grandmother, and towards the end he shows the ring to my parents and his parents via Skype. I remember him showing me this OneRepublic song and telling him it captured our story perfectly, and he agreed. I had no idea it sparked his imagination for the video proposal! The video consists of footage that we made to show our future children: us traveling around New Brunswick and Newfoundland, and the pure joy and excitement he now gets from Canadian coffee! When the lights finally came up I was so happy to see my love at the bottom of the theatre, ready to ask me the question of my life.
Csaba and I were married May 11, 2013, at the Fredericton Convention Centre before a small group of family and friends—and a camera that streamed the whole thing to Hungary! We’re planning a second wedding in Hungary, and possibly streaming this one to Canada. Love knows no bounds, and I truly know that this was meant to be!
