Eyebrows are a key part of your makeup look, whether running errands, heading for your bachelorette party or for your wedding day. Bold, natural, thick or thin, this season’s best accessory is all above the eyes.
Ashley Manias, National Education Director for Benefit Cosmetics Canada, dishes on the best (and worst!) practices for your eyebrows.
In the past 10 years eyebrows have undergone a revolution. Gone are the days of Kate Moss-inspired thin brows. “Today’s eyebrow trends are all about nice full brows,” says Ashley. “They are definitely a little less unkempt than the last two to three years, and are shaped and groomed into a more natural look.”
The most important tools in any makeup kit are an angled brush, spooley brush and a good set of tweezers.
If your brows are in need of a little SOS but you’re hesitant to get them waxed or tweezed, head to your local beauty retailer like Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart or MAC Cosmetics for some help from expert staff. “It’s important to ask questions when you’re shopping,” says Ashley. “Brow experts can define the products needed by the lifestyle of the client. Someone who is up and out the door in 15 minutes may only have time to apply a bit of pencil or brow gel, while others can take time to define and shape with a stencil, powder and wax.” If you are planning to head to a professional before the wedding, Ashley advises doing it no less than four days before the day, so brows have time to settle naturally. Booking an appointment one week before the wedding is best.
Avoid Over-Tweezing
Too many women go tweeze-happy and don’t take time to look back and evaluate their plucking. Tweeze one hair at a time and don’t go overboard. If you can’t show self-restraint, see a professional.
Find and Use Products that Help You Have a Brow Look You Love
Using the right products can enhance depth, colour, fullness and shape. Head into your local beauty store and ask the experts for their advice and help.
Give Tinting a Try
Tinting can bring baby hairs and peach fuzz into the brow allowing for a fuller shape.
