There is often one love story that doesn’t get highlighted enough during weddings – the love story between a bride and her maid of honour. Inspired by the vibrant shades of violet and the sweet scent of lilacs due to bloom in the spring, we wanted to create an editorial that showcased sisterly love among the blooms.
“Be thankful for sisters who are my dearest friends, and friends who are like dear sisters.” This is a quote adapted from Marilynne Todd Linford’s book, Sisters Forever, and is exactly what we wanted this shoot to represent.
We also wanted to incorporate as many sustainable elements as possible, showing that eco-friendly weddings don’t need to be rustic or boho, but can be romantic and fresh! We featured vendors who shared similar values when it came to sustainable business practices, and even foraged all the lilacs from the nearby area (with permission!). Fresh lilacs are fragrant and make delicious edible garnishes with subtle honey and jasmine flavours. We used untreated, pesticide-free lilacs in our desserts and drinks.
