Though Sharon and George unknowingly lived on the same street in Trenton, ON for three years when they were children, the couple didn’t meet until university where they both enrolled in an eight-week workshop on grammar for language students. Sharon nicknamed her future husband “Hot Grammar Guy” until she finally learned his name.
The pair stayed together throughout the rest of university, including four years of long-distance while they completed graduate studies in different cities. They now live together in Ottawa and will celebrate 10 years as a couple in 2014.
Sharon and George were married before 90 people at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and held their reception at The London Club.
The couple agreed that speeches were their favourite wedding moments. Though the traditional Orthodox Greek ceremony they held did not include vows, Sharon took the opportunity to read some to George at the couple’s reception.
“I love you because of your never wavering moral character. I love that you’re the first to comfort me when I’m hysterical about a character I only know through a book or movie,” said Sharon.
“And it’s because I love you, I promise to live life to the fullest with you. I promise to kiss you before I leave for work in the morning. I promise to be spontaneous every now and then, and not plan!”
Their favourite wedding details were the tokens they used to integrate family into the décor. The two displayed their parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos, leaving an empty frame for their own photo. They also lit six pillar candles in honour of loved ones who had passed away (including all four of the bride’s grandparents).
