Kyle noticed Melanie on the first day of school at the Faculty of Education at Western University in 2007. It wasn’t until a post-exam celebration months later that they finally met through a mutual friend. After talking for hours, Melanie agreed to give Kyle her phone number, but he only had a $5 bill for her to write on, which Kyle has kept ever since. On New Year’s Eve in 2011, Kyle proposed to Melanie amidst thousands of people in New York City’s Times Square. Right before the countdown, he pulled out a brand new $5 bill that read, “Melanie, will you marry me?” They began 2012 as a newly engaged couple, and now have two $5 bills that they can’t spend!
They were married on July 7, 2012 before 90 guests at The Windermere Manor in London, Ont. Marc Douglas Photography captured all the memorable moments from classical and romantic affair featuring the colours champagne and ivory. Their favourite wedding moment was leading all of their guests outside into the night where they lit tons of biodegradable sky lanterns, sending wedding wishes into the air. Everyone had a blast participating in the activity, and it was absolutely breathtaking to see all of the lanterns covering the night sky.
Looking back on their big day, they will always treasure their guest book. “We had an artist draw a tree and all of our guests added their fingerprints as leaves on the tree,” says the bride. “There was a special swing hanging from the tree for the bride and groom’s fingerprints, and our initials were carved into the tree as well.” None of their guests had seen anything like it before, and it is now treasured piece of artwork in their home.
