Q: What factors should couples consider when booking a planner?
A: First and foremost, you need to like each other. Your planner or planning team will be like your unofficial best friend throughout your planning process, so it’s important that your personalities jive. I would want a best friend who has my best interests at heart, who can shoot it straight, who can talk me off a ledge, and reign me in when needed. Next to this, ensure your aesthetic ideas align, and that your planner has a good rep, paired with real-life experience. #nofakeinstagramaccounts please!
Q: If couples are on a budget, how can they save a few bucks on the big day?
A: Look around you at your family and lean on any talented members to assist. I always believe including family talents not only saves money but adds a sense of intimacy and individuality to any wedding. Opt out of unnecessary expenses where you can. For example, grab an Uber X if a limo isn’t in the cards.
Q: Do you have any strategies for calming a stressed couple?
A: Besides a tall glass of wine, a “month-of coordinator” is a must. A couple should have to speak to minimal vendors on their wedding day and shouldn’t be asked any questions. Their job is to enjoy their guests, each other and their day. A good month of coordinator will remove the need for vendors to address the couple at all and act as the representative of the event on their behalf. Our team loves to dance and sing talk all day long; we find that maintaining a sense of humour even under stress is the best way to ease and energize those around us
Q: Your advice for couples just beginning to plan?
A: The first things you want to consider are guest count, ideal budget and the kind of wedding you want to have. These three thoughts will lay the framework for your planning process. My planning philosophy is that weddings have no rules. This is your one chance in life to throw the absolute party of your dreams, so don’t be bound by expectations or traditions that don’t speak to your heart. Tell your love story the way you want to.
