This is a poor country and political and economic challenges lie ahead, but the people are warm and welcoming. The county is beautiful, with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other of this central American country. Check out the range of interesting excursions.
What To Do
At Rancho Santana, explore 2,700 acres of rolling hills and two miles of rocky dramatic shore, broken up by five distinct beaches.
Take an organized tour. (Check out ExploreNicaragua.com). Start by staying at the Managua airport hotel and then at the four-star Camino Real Hotel.
Experience the tropical rainforest at Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan’s Rock. Stay in a luxurious bungalow and enjoy the beach and the local bars and restaurants. Its jungle offers a variety of monkeys, wild birds and other wild animals – great for sightseeing.
Where to Dine
Perhaps the best is Restaurant El Garaje. To combine food with ambiance choose The Garden Cafe, a lovely colonial home, Lily’s Cafe, with the finest view of America’s oldest plaza, or El Jardin de Orion, for great French cuisine served on its terraces. A great bar, just beyond Lake Tiscapa, is a Mayan temple with salsa, merengue, rock and techno!
