Thomas Simpson and DG Stringer
Thomas and DG had a perfect day, topped off with a surprise congratulations from the lead singer of one of their favourite bands! Read below to hear what they had to say about the big day.
What were your original plans for your wedding day? Our original plan was to hold an even larger wedding in September 2020, but COVID quickly changed those plans. We postponed our wedding twice, and thankfully were able to get married in November 2021 on a beautiful, seasonally warm day. Due to the number of guests and public health measures our wedding was both indoors and outdoors. Originally, our guest list was close to 200 people but again, thanks to COVID, we had to cut our list in half.
How did you feel before and after changing plans? Having to postpone our wedding twice was not ideal. We were excited to get married, but wanted our day to celebrate our commitment and love for one another, with our closest family and friends. In the end, the day was absolutely perfect and everything we wanted.
What was your favourite part of the day? There isn’t a single moment that we can point to that is our favourite. The ability to celebrate with people who we hadn’t been able to see for some time, because of the pandemic, made the day that much more joyful and special. It was one of the happiest occasions of our lives and something we will never forget.
Did anything go wrong? If anything went wrong, we didn’t know about it. To us, the day went off without any issues, which is a testament to just how amazing our wedding planner was.
Favourite wedding detail? While the entire day was spectacular, one moment was very special to us. Our MC surprised us, during dinner, by playing a personalized congratulations video message from the lead singer of the Arkells – one of our favourite bands.
What will guests remember most? Most of our guests hadn’t been to any kind of large celebrations, much less a wedding, since the start of the pandemic. Having friends and family together on a gorgeous day, filled with so much joy and laughter made the day truly memorable for everyone.
What advice can you give to couples who are planning their wedding? Have an honest conversation about how much you want to budget for your wedding and stick to what you can afford. If you don’t want to have traditional elements in your wedding, don’t have them. Make decisions that will make the day special to you.
