A library wedding might not be the first idea that comes to mind but this editorial makes a compelling case for it. With soaring ceilings, clean architectural lines and a net-zero imprint, Kitchener Public Library feels equal parts modern and inviting, where every detail is designed with intention. Sustainability isn’t treated as an afterthought here – it’s woven seamlessly into the celebration, proving that a beautiful wedding can also be a mindful one.
Recently featured in our Today’s Bride Spring/Summer 2026 print issue, this editorial shoot proves that sometimes the most unconventional wedding venues make the biggest impact on both your guests and the planet. Melany Redman, venues assistant at the library, shares how thoughtful choices can shape a more sustainable wedding.
The art of a sustainable “I do”
“Our big day doesn’t need to come at a cost to the planet. The choices you make matter and can go a long way in ensuring you’re starting the next chapter sustainably,” says Redman.
Digital invitations instead of paper, a vintage dress and donations instead of favours are all little ways to minimize waste, she adds. “Imagine getting married at a venue that values sustainability as much as you do.”
Redman suggests looking for an energy-efficient building such as the Southwest Library in Kitchener, Ont. “It is one of the first public libraries with a Net-Zero designation in Canada.”
Design inspiration flows from the natural elements in the space. Tall ceilings drench the sunroom with natural light. Clean crisp edges add a modern touch to the wood and greenery all around.
The space is crowned with a warming Indigenous art installation that will surely inspire conversations among guests of all ages.

“The library is a stunning backdrop to your love story, and it does all this while secretly ensuring your wedding day is eco-friendly and environmentally responsible,” says Redman.
