Butterflies are a symbol of transformation, change, hope and rebirth. Seems like we could use all of these things after the last two years.
Photographer Megan Maundrell shares a bit about the shoot’s inspiration.
“We wanted to showcase the beauty of change. As a caterpillar goes through metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly, the aspect of social mentality changing and being more accepting of people of different cultures and a bolder, brighter outlook. Especially poignant, are the addition of colour-shifting butterflies to signify that what looks like one colour to one may be different to another.
The wonderful couple that modelled are originally from India. When Tricia from Envied Events brought up the suggestion of the dress and suit, I loved the idea. A pant dress was to have the fun and bold side as well as the strength and character showcased of the female model. The velvet suit was used to bring in more of a feminine side of the groom, not to mention the texture is so similar to butterfly wings.
The best part of any photoshoot for me is having fun creating, I also like to throw in some wit and it’s always fun to see if anyone notices, such as all the names in the invitation suite are either translation of butterflies or types of butterflies. The best part is working with the wonderful team that came together for this project and seeing their amazing skills shine. I had a lot of fun on this one and with so much meaning behind this project, I know it will always be a favourite.”
