If you are looking for the ultimate in honeymoon indulgence, then you might want to check out Montego Bay, and more specifically, the over-the-water bungalows at Sandals Royal Carribbean. These private pieces of paradise are the ultimate in romance and luxury. Jump off your private dock into the blue water or lie in your hammock with a drink in hand. A private chef is available to cook delicious meals, and security is at the end of the dock, 24/7. After a long day of lounging, retire to your bedroom that features a glass-bottom floor. The bungalows are in high-demand, so book early. If they are outside your budget, book for a couple nights and stay at the main resort for the remainder of your trip.
Sandals Montego Bay is another option, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort that has incredible gourmet dining. Enjoy sushi at Soy or a slice on the beach at Dino’s Pizzeria Italiana. And you have to visit the Jerk Shack for some fish in foil.
Off resort, Jamaica has plenty to offer. For a few moments of quiet romance, escape to Martha Brae (30 km from Montego Bay) for a rafting experience like no other. You’ll board a 30-foot bamboo raft guided by one of the 85 expert raft captains. Hold hands, take in the scenery and relax. It’s a can’t-miss excursion.
If you’re into the supernatural, then be sure to visit the Rose Hall Great House, a restored mansion rumoured to be haunted. Guided tours can be booked, but keep an eye out for signs of the White Witch as you listen to tales of love and murder, all while sipping on witch’s brew.
Plan an all-day excursion to YS Falls for lunch and a swim, followed by a cruise down the Black River. From Montego Bay, it is a bit of a trek and definitely a long day, but the sights and experiences are well worth the drive.
Don’t leave Jamaica without partaking in a catamaran cruise, which typically includes a quick snorkeling adventure, followed by quite a bit of rum. Or take a romantic sunset cruise, instead.
Five things to do in Montego Bay
1. Get adventurous with zip-lining or river tubing.
2. Turn up the Bob Marley. You will not be able to escape his music. Give into it!
3. If you have time, venture to Dunn’s River Falls (about two hours away from Montego Bay).
4. Have a couple’s massage (try the Red Lane Spa at Sandals).
5. Go horseback riding on the beach (or in the water!).
