The fit and flare shows off the figure. It has developed from the mermaid style, but is not quite as extreme. The fit and flare hugs the body in exactly the same way as the mermaid, but the flare begins just below the hips instead of from the knees, which allows for easier movement. The fit and flare has become one of the favourite styles currently preferred by brides because it has the sexy qualities of the mermaid – and the drama – but is less constrictive and perhaps more comfortable for a long wedding day.
Where It Is Worn
It is a formal full-length style so, once again, it wouldn’t usually be a choice for a barn wedding but would be ideal for a church wedding.
Who It Flatters
The ideal body for the fit and flare is a woman with an hourglass shape; that is, bust and hips about the same size, with a small waist. This is a style that contours curves. Sometimes the small waist is emphasized with a jewelled belt.
If the bodice is plain, the addition of major jewellery is perfect. This may be enormous drop earrings or a fabulous necklace – but not both. If both are worn they tend to cancel each other out.
