Everyone has different criteria when it comes to defining the perfect beach. Do a little research before deciding on your honeymoon destination. Do you want wide beaches with white sand? Do you want a background of mountains or cliffs? Do you want great scuba diving?
Topless sunbathing
Even though topless sunbathing is more common in Australia and Europe (especially Scandinavia) than it is in North America, it’s hard to beat the topless beaches in Greece. The island of Mykonos has been a popular choice for decades.
Tiny Island views
You don’t have to leave Canada to find great beaches with a view of tiny off-shore islands that invite exploring. Lake Muskoka in Ontario has attracted celebrities for years – and many have built cottages and come back, year after year. And the Thousand Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence are an annual attraction for thousands of visitors.
Wildlife
For those who want to experience a wide array of wildlife, head for Bird Island in the Seychelles. The beach circles the island, so keep walking and you’ll end up where you started.
Surfing
For surfers, it’s hard to beat Bell’s Beach in Victoria, Australia. It has become so famous that the surrounding cliffs have viewing platforms to accommodate competition viewers.
Cliffs
For sheer drama, many travellers enjoy a great beach and blue water plus the drama of a background of high cliffs. This makes for great pictures! A beach on the island of Ponza in Italy delivers a memorable experience and gives you your own pictures that are so beautiful they could be postcards.
Fine sand
Beaches with soft, fine sand that stretch for miles are found throughout the Caribbean and are unmatched. In comparison, the famous beaches of the French Riviera, while incredibly beautiful, are largely made up of fine pebbles that are not always easy on the feet. The Caribbean beaches can differ in colour from island to island, but they all invite barefoot walking.
