Principality of Monaco. It snuggles
between the Alps and the Mediterranean
Sea, bordered by the Italian Riviera and
the French Riviera.
This beautiful princedom is a sovereign
state that is full of wonders, complete with
princesses, princes and castles. (Monaco
has been ruled by the Grimaldi family
dynasty for more than 700 years.)
It is divided into four areas: Monaco-Ville (old city), Condamine (port quarter),
Monte-Carlo (business and recreation) and
Fontvieille (recreation and light industry).
What to see
Take in the Italian-style gallery and 15th
century frescoes at the Prince’s palace.
Visit the breathtaking Monaco cathedral,
the burial place of Princess Grace. Go
to the Oceanographic Museum and see
marine fauna and rare fish at the worldfamous
aquarium.
Shop
Fall in love with Monaco’s glamorous
shopping districts. The “Carre d’Or” in
Monte Carlo houses luxury boutiques and
the best designer fashions from Dior to
Chanel.
Also visit La Condamine and the Port,
which is home to over 200 shops, the
traditional market at Port Hercule and a
pedestrian shopping area.
Nightlife
Party like royalty at Monaco’s vibrant
clubs, bars and lounges. After dancing up
a storm in a posh club, place bets with
the rich and famous in the world’s most
beautiful casinos.
The breathtaking Casino de Monte
Carlo’s game rooms are decorated with
sculptures and stained-glass windows.
The Café de Paris offers American gaming
in a Grand Prix-inspired décor.
Travel tips:
- Monaco is a constitutional monarchy
ruled by Prince Albert II, the son of
Princess Grace and Prince Rainier lll. - French is the official language,
but English and Italian are widely
spoken. - Currency is the euro.
- The closest airport is the Nice Cote
d’Azur International Airport. Take the
25-minute shuttle or a six-minute
helicopter transfer to Monaco.
