Rod Philpott is the founder of SHKANK INC a couture fashion house focused on creating original, fun and outrageous pieces that have been featured everywhere from NBC’s Miss Universe Pageant to So You Think You Can Dance and the Grammy Awards Red Carpet.
Earlier this year, Rod competed in the reality TV show, Wedding Dress Wars. H e won the heart of the bride and the contest.
This show married intense competition with sentimentality. It was formatted as a design competition show with the goal to capture the emotions of the bride.
There were three established designers racing to each produce the gown that the bride would choose. It also provided a window into the creative process because not many people understand the attention to detail that is required. A light was shone on the kind of pressure that is placed on designers. Their ultimate goal is always to create a dress that, from conception to ceremony, will be special.
The TV show wanted them to accomplish all of this in just a week! It explored whether these artists could create beauty when the clock is ticking and they are going head to head with two other top designers. The added element is that the bride was watching every step of rhe way.
