Just when you thought you had your highlighting and contouring game on-lock, a new kid shows up in town to brighten up your makeup routine. Maddox Lu, Benefit Canada national brow and makeup artist, gives us the scoop on strobing – the newest way to give skin a gorgeous, dewy glow.
TB: What is Strobing?
ML: This is a technique that enhances the face through just highlighting. Strobing has always been popular; it’s just come back with a face-lift and a new name.
TB: What Results Can You Reasonably Expect?
ML: If executed correctly, strobing will exaggerate your cheekbones, pucker up your pout and compliment your complexion with the appearance of a smooth, glowing and healthy finish.
TB: How Can Brides Achieve This?
ML: There are four different ways to strobe.
- Use skin care products that promote radiance.
- Use complexion products that offer a dewy finish.
- Apply a cream highlighter, either a cream stick or a liquid, to the bridge of the nose, cheekbones and cupid’s bow.
- Finish with a translucent smoothing powder lightly dusted in the t-zone and under the eyes to mattify oily areas and set makeup.
TB: Anything else that our readers should know?
ML: Use everything in moderation. Have fun building layers and using a variety of products, but be light-handed, or you might be mistaken for an oil slick with glittery powder products. Remember, if you make a mistake, just take it off. Push yourself to try different formulas.
