Nicole & Andy Waugh
The love story: Nicole and Andy met when they were in Grade 11 (2005), randomly meeting up with some mutual friends. Nine years later, their paths crossed again, as they found themselves living in Toronto. They reconnected, had a first date, and have been inseparable ever since.
Epic proposal: Nicole says, “During our years of dating I was dancing on the Toronto Raptors dance team. On April 25, 2018, during Game 5 in the first round of playoffs, Andy proposed at the game with the help of a few good friends as well as some of the Dance Pak, who orchestrated a plan to get me to him during halftime. Andy pulled off a complete surprise and proposed. I said ‘yes’ and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Favourite part of the day: While the couple did do a first look, pre-ceremony, they best part was still seeing each other walk down the aisle. Despite the early preview, there’s nothing like that special feeling you get on the aisle.
Unique aspects: “We wanted to make things as fun and entertaining for our guests while incorporating our own personal touches and sentimental moments as well,” says Nicole. “We had signature cocktails named after our cats and handmade décor items such as our photo backdrop, table numbers, cigar box, “here comes your bride sign” and welcome sign made by our family and friends. Our MCs also did a great job introducing our bridal party using a football themed slideshow presentation to introduce each member of the bridal party as “team bride” or “team groom”.
What will guests remember most? Nicole says, “Everyone is still talking about how they had no idea that we would break out into a choreographed routine halfway during our first dance. Andy had performed as Kenickie from Grease back in high school and I had grown up dancing my whole life, so we thought it would be great to surprise our guests with a Grease-themed choreographed routine. Our hope was to get people excited to get on the dance floor and we think it did the trick!”
