Booking a destination wedding package at a hotel or resort comes with plenty of perks. It’s convenient, cost-effective and takes the stress out of planning by covering most of the essentials. But while packages simplify the process, they can sometimes lack those personal touches that make your celebration truly yours. Add some flair and individuality to your big day with these creative ideas that bring your love story to life.

Bouquets & boutonnieres
Most basic destination wedding packages include a bouquet for the bride and a boutonniere for the groom. While lovely, they can sometimes feel a bit generic. Fortunately, it’s easy to add personal touches that make these floral details truly your own – without needing extra luggage space. Consider pinning a family heirloom, like your grandmother’s brooch or your father’s cufflinks, to the bouquet.
For the boutonniere, incorporate small items that reflect your shared story, such as a fishing lure, a golf tee or the key to your first apartment. You could also craft fabric flowers together, wrap both pieces with ribbon from a loved one’s garment, or fold origami blooms using paper from old love letters for a sentimental, handmade touch.
Wedding cake
No celebration feels complete without a wedding cake, which most resort packages include a standard one-, two- or three-tier creation. While hotels and resorts may have limited flexibility when it comes to flavours and decorations, there are plenty of ways to make it your own. Add a touch of personality with a custom cake topper, like a miniature of your pet, or surround the cake with your favourite candies and chocolates.
You can also drape the table with antique linens or handkerchiefs for a vintage look, or top the cake with fresh flowers you picked together that morning for a simple, romantic finish.

Music
This is where you can really let your personalities shine! Most destination wedding packages can be upgraded to include a DJ or live music. Come prepared with a list of must-play hits to get everyone on the dance floor. You can leave request sheets on each table, letting friends and family help shape the night’s playlist.
Consider a musical theme, such as songs from the years you were born, or kick things off with a game of musical chairs to break the ice. An open-mic hour can also add a fun twist, giving guests the chance to serenade you with love songs. Whatever you choose, make sure the music keeps the energy high and the dance floor jumpin’ all night long!
Drinks
A toast to the happy couple is a wedding staple, whether you’re celebrating at a five-star resort or a villa in Italy. Give it a personal twist with a signature cocktail inspired by your first date, your wedding colours, or even named after your pet or couple nickname. Dress up each glass with custom charms that reflect your shared interests – like a pickleball paddle, wine bottle or suitcase – or add acrylic drink tags or stir sticks featuring your initials.
Serving wine? Create custom bottle labels with your names and wedding date, or add a touch of humour with coasters illustrated with your caricatures.
