Pulling off a surprise proposal isn’t easy – especially when your partner knows you so well they can spot a secret from a mile away. But when it’s done right, it’s unforgettable.
Case in point: Kirstie Pike’s heartwarming proposal to Christine Diaz. The couple, who run the social platform On Airplane Mode, are on a mission to normalize queer love and travel. Their ultra-romantic, bended-knee moment in paradise might just spark your next grand gesture of love.
The surprise proposal
“Over the last year, I planned a surprise proposal in Bora Bora, and I am so happy with how it all came together,” said Kirstie. “We wanted to share the story with you, to continue sharing positive queer joy!”
While on a faux ‘work trip’ to the breathtaking island, the surprise proposal took place during a romantic photoshoot, during which the couple took a beautifully decorated canoe adorned with vibrant tropical flowers to a secluded sandbar that could only be described as something out of a movie.
As the sun gently peeked through the clouds, they were greeted by a stunning aisle of tropical blooms, leading to the top of the sandbar. There, with the serene sound of a ukulele playing “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” Kirstie got down on one knee and asked Christine to be her partner for life. In a heartwarming moment that will be cherished forever, Christine said yes!
Why this surprise proposal worked so perfectly
From the thoughtful planning to the deeply personal touches – the secluded sandbar, the ukulele serenade, the vibrant tropical blooms – every detail reflected who they are as a couple. It wasn’t just about the setting (although, wow!); it was about creating an experience rooted in love, intention and joy. A proposal like this proves you don’t need a crowd or a big spectacle to make it unforgettable – just your person, a little magic and a whole lot of love.
