Here, Eunice describes how this wedding styled shoot came to life.
What was the vision/idea behind the styled shoot?
“We really wanted to create a romantic modern shoot that would incorporate lots of soft feminine details (bows, florals) that complimented the structured, modern venue space. We wanted to inspire couples to incorporate these romantic elements in their own weddings. For our hair and makeup, we really wanted to further this soft, romantic feeling by incorporating natural glam makeup, classic Hollywood waves and an elegant pearl earring.”
Can you describe the theme or style?
“Overall, we aimed for a romantic vibe with an abundance of luxurious floral blooms, blush pinks, and a peek of lilac for this styled shoot. We echoed this floral theme with the wedding dress, Colleen by Eva Lendel, and in our veil, Flora by Jane Rhyan. We also included floral details in our stationery, menus, invitations and as a liner for the envelope.
“We also included the Mariee heel from Bella Belle Shoes, which features gold floral straps and an oversized pink bow. Our cake also featured hand-painted florals crafted by the talented Alannah of Cakes by Peddie. We also included tied ribbon bows on our candles for bit of whimsy.”
What type of flowers were used?
“By Yours Truly Floral Studio loves to use luxurious fluffy blooms—it’s Jay’s signature style! He included an abundance of English garden roses, lisianthus, and dahlias. These florals were arranged in compote vessels for the table, making for a very full and luxurious display. Jay’s work is perfect for any floral lover!”
Why did you choose this venue?
“Mintara is a hidden gem atop Burnaby Mountain. It has floor-to-ceiling windows, which allow for plenty of natural light and mountaintop views of Vancouver, both inside and outside the venue, making it the perfect backdrop for this styled shoot. It has neutral furnishings and is a versatile space for any wedding. It also includes in-house food and drink, making it a great option for couples!”
Describe the colour palette.
“Our colour palette was based heavily on blush pink with hints of green, pastel yellow and lilac purple, accompanied by lots of white space. We wanted to keep everything soft and pastel, focusing on blush pink.”
What can you tell us about the cake?
“The cake was lovingly hand-painted by Alannah of Cakes by Peddie. She always creates masterpieces! The flowers were painted with royal icing (for the stability and duration of a photoshoot!); however, for a real wedding, the flowers would likely be painted with buttercream. We chose a three-tier cake for an extra level of luxury. There is also one subtle layer of acrylic between the cake layers for a sense of modernity.”
What else was unique about the shoot?
“Overall, we wanted to create an inspirational styled shoot that would be romantic and floral in a traditionally more modern space. We wanted to include big blooms in a romantic palette and create a dreamy, elegant, but chic look. In Vancouver, many weddings happen outdoors in the summer, but we wanted to show that you can still have that airy, bright, romantic vibe indoors as well.”
