Setting the date of your destination wedding during the right month can make the difference between blue skies and torrential downpour. You can’t predict the weather, but you can improve your chances of avoiding grey clouds.
If you’re planning your destination wedding at one of the popular locations, here are the best times to travel.
Cancun, Mexico
Set the date between December and April, when temperatures and rainfall are at their lowest. You can expect warm, sunny days that are between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. Be warned: this is also peak tourist season.
If you want to snap up a bargain, hold your Cancun wedding in late April or May. It will be a little warmer, about the low 30s with some humidity, but the breeze from the Caribbean Sea should cool you down.
Jamaica
Escape Canada’s winter by travelling to Jamaica. The country’s rainy season runs from May to October, but November to April delivers the country’s annual low of about 30 degrees Celsius.
If your Jamaica wedding is in March or April, you’ll be able to experience Carnival, one of the Caribbean’s best-known cultural festivals, which starts the week after Easter.
Dominican Republic
Travel between November and April and bask on sandy beaches and blue skies. The temperature drops to about 29 or 30 degrees Celsius and there’s little rainfall. July and August are also good months to visit, with the temperature sitting around 31 degrees Celsius and less rainfall than in May and June.
Bahamas
You’re better off setting your travel date between December and May because the hurricane season is in effect between June to November. You can expect sun, sand and temperatures between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius, with little rainfall. Keep in mind, it’s also peak tourist time on the island.
Hawaii
Temperatures don’t change drastically throughout the year and sit between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius, but the island can get humid. Hawaii’s peak tourist season runs from September through March, which also happens to be the island’s rainy season. You might want to plan your wedding during the off-season for cheaper rates.
Fiji
Fiji has two seasons: the dry season, which is May to October, and the wet season, which is November to April. The dry season offers average temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius and dry, sunny weather. During its wet season, the country sees heavy showers and the higher chance of typhoons.
If you have your Fiji wedding between May and October, expect great weather, but also many tourists.
Florence, Italy
Most Europeans are on vacation between May and August and during these months, Italy is a popular destination. Florence offers temperatures between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius. Avoid visiting the city in August because that’s when many of the locals go on holiday and it also tends to get humid. If you want to avoid the vacation crowds, plan your wedding for March, April, October, November or December, but expect mild temperatures.
If you’re in Florence during Easter, watch for the flashy pyrotechnics show, which is a part of the Explosion of the Cart Festival, held in front of the Duomo (the cathedral church) on Easter Sunday.
