It was an elegant and fun-filled day when high school sweethearts Jacqueline and Derik were married, surrounded by their family and friends in Hamilton, Ontario.
Derik and Jacqueline met through mutual friends in high school and have been dating since they were 15 years old.
On Thanksgiving weekend 2011, when they were at Jacqueline’s aunt and uncle’s cottage, Derik asked Jacqueline to go for a walk with him. As they were walking along he stopped to tie his shoe. As he was tying his shoe, he pointed to a tree and told Jacqueline to go and look what was on it. Carved into the tree were the words “Just say I do”. When Jacqueline turned around, Derik was on one knee and asked her to marry him. Jacqueline of course said “yes” and the couple were married on their ten year anniversary.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the couple’s ceremony. “Derik’s sister Crystal acted as our officiant and we gave her free reign over the ceremony,” says Jacqueline. “She made it so personal to us and she had us laughing the entire time – everyone raved about it afterwards!”
And as for the bride’s favourite wedding detail? That’s an easy one. “My broach bouquet was stunning,” says Jacqueline.
