Nick and Colleen met long before they actually started dating. The couple went to the same high school, but under different circumstances. Colleen was attending the National Sports School as a figure skater which was housed inside Nick’s high school, William Aberhart. They also played for the same soccer club and ended up having a lot of the same friends in our social circles. After a while, they eventually started dating and seven years later it was time to pop the question.
The day Nick proposed, he told Colleen he had planned for them to go out to Banff for a hike. This was a typical weekend activity for the couple, so Colleen didn’t expect anything. Nick had rented a boat at Lake Minnewanka and even bought lifejackets for the couple’s two dogs to come on the boat. Nick drove the boat into the middle of the lake surrounded by mountains and proposed to Colleen!
The couple’s favorite wedding moment was exchanging their hand written vows during the ceremony. “Our vows perfectly represented us individually – mine were heartfelt, while Nick’s were sentimental and made our guests burst into laughter,” says Colleen.
As for the couple’s favorite wedding detail? That’s an easy one for this bride to choose. “Having the cuff of my late dad’s custom suit shirt, which had his initials stitched onto it, used to wrap the stems of my bouquet was a way of having me feel like my dad was there with me walking me down the aisle,” says Colleen.
