Hollie & Alex Madore
Hollie and Alex met at a drop-in volleyball night, and it didn’t take long before they began travelling the world.
Hollie says, “We moved to Saint John, New Brunswick in 2014 and I quickly introduced Alex to my love for travel. We travelled to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Montenegro and Croatia. In 2018 we travelled to Sri Lanka where Alex proposed in the quaint mountain town of Ella. We decided to wait a few days to tell our friends and family and it was a really special time when we could really enjoy our engagement just the two of us before we shared it with the world.”
The ceremony: Our wedding took place in a vineyard in small town Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Lightfoot is an amazing venue, as it has several unique spaces that you can host different elements of your wedding. We got married outside next to the vineyard looking out onto Cape Blomidon.
The reception: We had our cocktail hour in the vines, our reception in the stunning barrel cellar and our dance in the marquee tent. The barrel cellar is really a unique space as it is one long reception area with locally made harvest tables in which everyone sits family style surrounded by beautiful chandeliers and aged barrels of wine.
The design: We used vintage gold candle sticks and vintage rentals which really highlighted the beautiful harvest tables in the cellar. I am obsessed with flowers and I based a lot of my design on elements of greenery to highlight the natural beauty of the vineyard. We used Italian ruckus and eucalyptus to highlight the harvest tables, seating charts, welcome signs and also for hanging elements in the marquee tent. We gave succulents as wedding favours as a way for our guests to remember the day and as a representation of us.
East Coast love: Many of our guests were from Ontario, so we tried to incorporate an east coast feel with sea food options during cocktail hour as many of our guests had never been to the East Coast. Nova Scotia has such a wealth of talented wedding vendors and I really feel as though we had the dream team making our wedding a reality.
The worst part: My least favourite part was doing the seating chart and meal choice charts. I was so worried I would spell a name wrong, or not give the correct food choice!
Best day ever: Everyone tells you that your wedding day will be the best day of your life, but you don’t believe it until it happens. The days leading up to the wedding I was quite stressed, but the morning of I felt very calm. We had allowed for extra time getting ready and it was so nice to spend time with my girls and not feel rushed. I did a first look with both my father and Alex and it really helped me feel more relaxed before the ceremony. We snuck out for some sunset photos after the reception started and we took a moment just for us before heading back in and that was really special because the day goes by so quickly and you spend so much time interacting with guests that you often don’t spend a lot of quiet time together.
