Rick planned the couple’s vacation to Oahu, Hawaii, back in November 2014. Sonia was the one that really wanted to go Hawaii, it was always a place she had dreamed of visiting. So Rick planned a 14-day vacation in the same month as Sonia’s birthday. Sonia recalls that landing in Hawaii for the first time felt like a dream.
A couple of weeks before the trip, Rick had mentioned to Sonia that he was entering a few contests and giveaways for attractions and things to do in Hawaii. Sonia thought nothing of it. So right before the trip, Rick had said that the two had won a free photoshoot in Oahu. Naturally, Sonia was all over the idea. She was so excited!
Their photoshoot took place two days before the couple headed back to Vancouver. They drove up to the North Shore, to Waimanelo Beach. There, they met their photographer Kristin Hook. She took a couple of casual photos and then asked Sonia to look into the ocean. Kristin said she was going to be setting up a shot with Rick. Just then, Kristin asked Sonia to turn around and that’s when she saw Rick down on one knee. “I felt like my heart stopped,” said Sonia. “He then went onto to tell how much he loved me, and asked me to marry him. I started to cry and immediately said YES.”
The bride’s favourite wedding moment was walking down the aisle to her future husband with her dad and brother. “When I saw Rick standing at the altar waiting for me, his face reflected everything I was feeling in that moment,” said Sonia.
The groom’s favourite wedding moment was seeing Sonia for the first time on their wedding day. “She was so beautiful, I forgot where I was,” said Rick. “I also loved it when the Reverend announced us as Mr. & Mrs. Lasher and I finally got to kiss my wife.”
For Sonia and Rick, there were too many favourite wedding details to include, but one of the most important ones was their wedding location. “We wanted to include Hawaiian traditions and pay respect to the beautiful land we are on, and embrace the spirit of aloha,” said Sonia.
