Epicentre of some of the world’s greatest art, food and culture, Italy’s dolce vita has been luring romantics for ages. Such mesmerizing is its beauty, that filmmakers find it to be ‘the’ destination for making on-screen romance come alive (think Roman Holiday; Under the Tuscan Sun; Call Me By Your Name; Eat, Pray, Love to name a few). Interestingly, the destination is popular among celebrities for the ultimate celebration of their real-life romance too! Here’s why stars are choosing to say ‘I do’ in Italy.
1. A personalized affair
The primary reason any couple chooses to have an intimate wedding is to make it more personalized and to be able to spend quality time with their valued guests. For instance, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel began celebrations a couple of days before the wedding with a casual beach party followed by dinner and drinks in Trappeto, and got their guests to try affogato (ice cream and coffee) and mini caprese salads. Italy offers a range of remarkable options to have a gala time with loved ones. Itineraries often include group activities such as tours, wine tastings and cooking classes.
The birthplace of many masterpieces, Italy is a work of art in itself. What better way to begin life together than a celebration with such a magnum opus as the backdrop!
2. The romantic aura
No words are enough to describe the splendor of Italy. The romanticism of the country has given birth to some of the best works of literature. What may be called the epitome of romance in literature, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was set in Italy. Little wonder then, that our celebrities – who live and breathe romance on the silver screen – choose such a dreamy location for celebrating their love in real life.
3. Perfect backdrop
George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin got married at a historic palazzo in Venice. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen chose a magnificent villa on Lake Como. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (while they are no longer together) tied the knot in the beautiful Odescalchi Castle in Rome. The venues are stunning as are the backdrops for photographs before and after the wedding. From castles, villas and stately palazzos to charming farms, Italy has unbeatable photographic reasons for a destination wedding.
4. Food lovers’ delight
With Italy’s rich cuisine, there are countless famous and traditional must-eat dishes that can make any celebration extraordinary. When Justin and Jessica tied the knot in an intimate wedding in Italy, they were asked why they chose the destination. “We love to eat!,” came the reply from the gorgeous couple, who have been married for six years now. The wedding was held at the glorious Borgo Egnazia resort in Puglia.
5. It can be whatever you want it to be
Italy’s geographical diversity is such that it can fit into any idea of a perfect wedding destination one has. From snowy Alps in the North to the warm region of the South, and from the glitzy and glamorous Milan to the serene Venice – the possibilities are endless! We’ve seen celebrities choosing city weddings in Rome, rustic weddings in Tuscany, or beach weddings off the Amalfi coast, based on their personalities.
