When Pippa Middleton stepped out of the car for sister Kate’s wedding last year, her body-hugging, ivory gown told the world that bridesmaids are a force to be reckoned with. We’ve talked to Danielle Gulic from twobirds Bridesmaid in Toronto for the latest trends in bridesmaid fashion.
Whites or off whites for bridesmaids
We can thank the Kates for this one! Both Kate Middleton and Kate Moss chose ivory and white for their maids and, as a result, daring brides love that they can match their maids in white.
Eyes on the Maid of Honour
In a group of bridesmaids one stands out from the rest. The Maid of Honour takes on a bit more responsibility than the other maids and deserves to stand out from the pack – either in a different colour or dress style! For a subtle difference, try adding a statement necklace or colourful bangles.
Wave of blue
We are getting so many requests for the blues! We find this colour – in every hue – is huge for destination weddings and upcoming weddings in 2013. People are feeling and loving blue.
Mix it up
Instead of one common colour we are finding that more and more brides are picking multiple colours. We suggest sticking to a hue and playing with shades that fall under that colour umbrella.
Nourishing neutrals
If you want to decide on dresses but have not yet committed to a full colour-scheme for your wedding, pick a neutral bridesmaid dress. Grey neutrals work with almost any colour or flower, and are perfect for any time of year.
Paying up
Brides generally know or can remember what it’s like to be a bridesmaid so more and more brides want to make it a little easier for their friends by helping to pay for the bridesmaid dress. This is one classy move.
Luxe fabrics
Soft fabrics like chiffon, either flowing or textured, are making their way down many ceremonial aisles. Restrictive and form-fitting dresses are loosing the battle when it comes to all-night comfort and style.
Bye-bye Bridezilla
Brides are giving their maids the final word when it comes to style and colour! Brides are becoming more flexible and open to having their maids’ input on the final dress selection.
Say hello to brights
Accessorizing your bridesmaids with bright jewelry or shoes is a fun way to add some punch to the bridesmaid’s look. Remember it is a whole look versus just a dress, so try having fun with a bright lip or adding tulle in a bright citrus colour under a classic black dress to keep it classy while being unique.
