Who says you need to leave the city to be closer to nature? This romantic-style wedding shoot, designed by Anna Labadze Avery of MyOccasion and set in downtown Vancouver, shows how to bring country-chic charm to an urban setting. Blending lush florals, soft textures and refined details, it’s a modern fairytale brought to life. Here, Labadze Avery breaks down how she did it.
The palette: Soft & dreamy
“Lavender, lilac, soft pink and dusty blue come together to create a palette that’s both soothing and elegant,” she says. “These hues flow through every detail, from the florals to the stationery, evoking a fresh, garden-inspired feel. Captured in a soft, airy style by Sparrow Photography, the mood is one of warmth, comfort and quiet luxury.”
The venue: A city oasis
“Set within the Marine Garden at The Westin Bayshore, this venue offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and urban convenience. Overlooking Stanley Park and the North Shore Mountains, it’s a serene escape right in the heart of Vancouver.”
Floral-filled details
Designed by MyOccasion and brought to life by Get A Bouquet, the wedding florals are front and centre. “Woven baskets overflowing with dahlias, spray roses, delphinium and lisianthus lend a wild, romantic vibe,” Labadze Avery says. “Elevated arrangements and soft ribbons add movement and depth to the space.
The wedding tablescape blends rustic warmth with polished details: cane-back chairs, a River Way dinner set, gold-rimmed glassware, brushed-gold flatware and natural ceramic candle holders. The sweetheart table, draped in chiffon and framed by asymmetrical floral baskets, is a showstopper. The bride’s updo, adorned with fresh flowers, enhances the organic aesthetic.”
Personal touches
From a vintage audio guestbook to a gold-rimmed mirror seating chart, thoughtful details make the celebration feel intimate and meaningful. “A garden-inspired cake, hand-painted with soft green brushstrokes and fresh floral accents, ties everything together. Scented candle favours add a sensory layer of charm.”
DIY with style
“Custom touches like Canva-designed stationery, wax-seal-style name cards and a hand-painted card box bring personality to the day. A lilac-painted frame for the signature cocktail sign adds a playful, polished moment at the bar.”
Our favourite detail
The floral baskets used throughout the ceremony and reception anchor the design. “Their natural elegance creates a sense of movement and romance that’s both grounded and elevated.”
Play with varying basket heights and asymmetrical placement for a garden look that feels fresh and modern, Labadze Avery says. “Soft fabrics, layered textures and a curated colour palette bring it all to life.”
