Wedding invitations really do set the tone for your wedding.
While they can be completely different from your décor or theme, it’s nice to use your wedding stationery to tie everything together.
Here are a few things to consider when choosing your invitations.
1. Get creative with the shape of your invites. Sure, rectangular is classic, but oddly-shaped invites are eye-catching and unique. Think round, triangular, or, well, just about anything with a curved edge.
2. Let your personality shine through. Use your favourite colours, or maybe lyrics from a song you love. Perhaps a photo of the two of you, or even of your pets. Invitations contain vital pieces of information, but don’t have to be “serious” when it comes to design.
3. Get the words right. Be funny. Be creative. Be romantic. Set the vibe for your day. And once you’ve settled on the wording, double check, no, TRIPLE check, the spelling and accuracy of the details. Ask a second or third person to proof it too, in case you miss anything.
4. Set a budget and stick to it. Be sure to consider:
- price of the invitations themselves
- extra costs for different colours/fonts/paper stock
- the weight of the entire envelope being sent
- postage (for reply cards, too)
5. Carry the design over to the rest of your stationery: seating chart, menus, wine labels, favour tags, etc. The design will tie all your details together.
6. Addressing envelopes can be a pain and sometimes printed labels seem too impersonal. If it’s within your budget, hire a pro to address your invites. Calligraphy is truly an art that not many people have mastered, so let a professional turn your invitations into something beautiful.
7. Order a few extra in case you add to your guest list or want to hang onto a few as keepsakes.
