Baby it’s cold outside: winter wedding inspo

There are countless reasons to fall in love with winter weddings: Crisp, clean fallen snow, and snuggling by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa, while wrapped in a fur blanket. Although the winter days are cooler and nighttime comes earlier, many venues offer discounted rates and your guests’ schedules may be less hectic, making the winter months an ideal time for a wedding.

If you’re thinking about a destination winter wedding in a city full of charm and history, then Kingston, Ontario is the perfect spot. Kingston (aka the “Limestone City”) is rich with buildings that have been constructed with limestone, and which provide a variety of stunning wedding backdrops. From the façade of City Hall to the expansive walls that surround Fort Henry and the meandering and magical path of the Martello Alley, there are plenty of options to find the perfect backdrop. Kingston is also home to incredibly talented wedding vendors, some of whom brought this fire-and-ice wedding vision to life.

The backdrop for this winter wedding shoot, the Frontenac Club Inn, has been showcasing some of the city’s most beautiful limestone since 1845. The Club was also recently renovated with lavish finishes, and decor in a stunning neutral pallet with pops of deep blue, which made it an easy choice for an icy yet elegant winter theme. The Club’s 20 guest rooms provide the perfect space to cozy up for an intimate micro-wedding. The color inspiration for the shoot began with the icy blue dress and the vintage 1980’s Blue Spring china. From there, the calligraphist designed the wedding invitations using snowflakes and cool winter tones, and then wrapped them in homemade paper envelopes that were wax sealed with love. The beaded bridal sash, vintage crystal glasses, sparkly snowflake cake topper and wedding rings designed by a local jeweler added additional icy elements to the shoot.

To balance the cool of the ice and to add comfort and warmth, we added the hot chocolate bar, a fur shawl, and cozy blankets. The guest room fireplace and courtyard fire table complete the final touches of warmth for this winter themed shoot. This shoot was designed with trendsetters who may have a bit of a rule breaking wild side in mind. To highlight this Sahara wore a modern braided hair style and a structured leather jacket and the couple enjoyed a black buttercream wedding cake.

Incorporating pieces of the couple’s love story into their wedding will create an experience that is as unique as their love for each other. The final winter touch that would have completed the shoot was not in our control. In true 2020 fashion, no matter how much we wished for it to snow in the days leading up to the shoot, Mother Nature waited until the very next morning to turn the Club’s grounds into a winter wonderland. However, we think that you will agree that the fire and ice theme is a spectacular winter wedding combination.
