Frances & Bolarinwa
Frances & Bolarinwa chose to proceed with an outdoor intimate wedding witnessed by 50 guests. Nothing was going to delay them any further. 2020 had to be the year they finally say I do! Here’s what the bride had to say about their day.
Tell us about your love story: We met right after a Sunday morning service at church. He walked right up to me, dressed in a suit and introduced himself. I was in my third year of university at the time and automatically assumed that anyone wearing a suit to church had to be old (like ancient lol). He corrected that assumption very quickly. We hung out a few times, he gave me car rides multiple times but I never thought much of it. I thought he was just being nice.
Two years after we first met, I lost my part-time job and he took me out to Red Lobster to cheer me up (I had never been at the time). We grew very close after that date and we dated for 6 years before saying ‘I do’.
Why was it important to you to keep the original date? We had cancelled twice before due to a family tragedy and his brother’s wedding. This meant postponing our wedding for 2 years. This year when COVID-19 hit, we made the decision that when restrictions were lifted enough for us to get married, if it meant with just two witnesses and the officiant, we would do it. Thankfully, when our date came on August 27, we were allowed up to 50 guests. It worked out almost perfectly!
What was your favorite part of the day? My favorite part of the day was taking photos with our guests. We had a short ceremony and no reception (to maintain physical distancing). We had a prepared order of photography; so the times when our guests came up to take photos with us was the only interaction that we got with them. However, those few minutes with everyone meant so much to us.
Tell us about any unique aspects: Something unique that we did was individual takeout dinners. I’ve never heard of that being done at a wedding, but we really wanted to feel like we shared a meal with everyone who came.
Did anything go wrong? Walking down the aisle, I was wearing open toe heels and the non-slip pads that I used were sticking out, in fact I almost tripped! The photographer and videographer made sure not to catch it though lol.
If you could have done anything different, what would you have changed? My husband and I both think we could have shared our live streaming link out to more people.
What will your guests remember most? Definitely the location. It was absolutely gorgeous. It used to be a farm located in the center of our home city with an enclosed garden area. We had the ceremony right in the garden.
Advice to couples planning their wedding? We realized how invaluable a wedding planner really is – get a good wedding planner. Ours was phenomenal!
