Godfrey & Tahni Boateng
Tell us about your love story: Our love story began over 10 years ago when our eyes met across the dance floor and we have been dancing through life together ever since. We share a love for music, fashion and travel. While we have many similarities, it has been our differences that have been most complementary; allowing us to grow into who we are today.
As life unfolded over the years, we have navigated our way through college, career changes and even a stint of long distance. Through it all, our love grew stronger and deeper.
On a trip to Lake Louise, Alberta after almost 8 years together, Godfrey planned the most magical proposal. Following a year of being blissfully engaged we began planning our dream wedding. Being surrounded by our closest friends and family on our wedding day felt like the perfect way to celebrate the first decade of our love story. It only seemed natural to end the night back where we first found each other, on the dance floor.
What was your favourite part of the day? It’s hard for us to choose a single favourite moment of our day. We thoroughly enjoyed having our first look after we spent the morning getting ready. Coming together for the first time that day to enjoy an intimate moment where we shared personal vows with each other was very special. Another memorable moment was arriving at the venue and seeing it decorated for the first time. It was such a great moment when we finally got to see all our hard work and planning come together and we were absolutely blown away with the final result of our decorator. Finally, all the love of our closest friends and family all in one room celebrating together was a once in a lifetime feeling and a moment we will forever cherish.
Tell us about any unique aspects: We wanted our wedding to also represent the union of our families and culture and incorporated that through clothing and music. Godfrey’s family helped us get our own personalized kente cloth made into traditional clothing and had our custom outfits sent to us all the way from Ghana. We surprised everyone and changed into our second looks and reentered the reception as we danced in to Ghanaian music.
What will your guests remember most? Guests have reminisced with us about our outfits and second entrance, the amazing DJ, our beautiful floral centrepieces they could not believe were real, and our gifted custom made coasters with their names.
Honeymoon? Two days following the wedding we left for Oahu, Hawaii and enjoyed a week in Honolulu splitting our time between staying on the beach at the Westin Moana Surfrider and relaxing by the pool at the Ritz Carlton. All of which we can’t recommend enough!
