Rebecca Gopaul & Shane Karset
Tell us about your love story: Shane and I have been together for just over 11 years. We met and became friends in middle school but didn’t start dating until our Grade 12 year. Our families both grew up in the same town outside of Vancouver (Port Moody, BC) and my grandfather actually taught Shane’s mother in high school.
What was your favourite part of the day? I enjoyed our speeches and loved taking pictures together with our bridal party. Also, getting ready with my mom and bridesmaids was a huge highlight as well.
Tell us about any unique aspects: I made by own wedding cake and wedding favours (our wedding favours were sugar cookies with our names and wedding date stamped on fondant icing.) My older sister designed our wedding invitations, table numbers, seating chart and wedding sign. She is a graphic designer based in Vancouver. There was a photo of the groom’s deceased mother on my bouquet
Did anything go wrong? The DJ played the wrong version for our first dance song, but no one noticed but us. Second, most guests did not understand our wine cork guest book, so I would have liked to have made that more obvious.
Honeymoon? Shane and I spent 15 days in Europe. We travelled around Italy (Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Venice) for the majority of the vacation and ended in Amsterdam for two nights before we returned home. We highly recommend going on a honeymoon right away, if possible.
Advice to couples planning their wedding? This is supposed to be an exciting time so have fun with it and make sure to plan together! It is also important to discuss each other’s priorities before planning and try to not sweat the small stuff.
