After planning your destination wedding, there’s only one more thing couples need to do to do before their trip – pack. You’ll be a long way from home, so make sure you have everything you need.
Whether your wedding is in a tropical paradise or the city, here’s a list of what you should take in order to be ready for your special day.
Documents
In most countries, you will need to bring your original birth certificate, your passport and any other proof of citizenship. Also, depending on the country you decide to travel to, you may need a divorce decree or proof of your single status. Here’s a guide of other important documentation that you may need.
Wedding outfits
Be cautious with your garments and pack your wedding dress and the groom’s suit in separate garment bags. To make sure that the dress and suit arrive safely, bring your wedding attire in a carry-on bag. Bring the garment bags with you on the plane and store them in the overheard compartment.
Pack two pairs of shoes – one for the ceremony and one for casual use. This will save space for other things that you’ll need.
Hair, makeup and accessories
If you’ve decided to do your own hair for the ceremony, research the number of volts and type of plug used at your destination. You may need to bring plug converters for your styling devices.
When it comes to makeup, separate the products you’ll need for the ceremony in one bag and your casual makeup in another.
To avoid tangles, thread your necklaces through a drinking straw and place them in a toothbrush holder. Place your earrings in day-of-the-week pill containers. You could also place small rings and earrings into small plastic bags.
Don’t forget to pack your something old, new, borrowed and blue.
Décor
If you’re travelling with fragile favours or other decorations, wrap them up with your clothes or towels and place them in the centre of the suitcase. Try to pack your décor in your carry-on since there’s a large possibility it could end up broken or lost.
Other quick ways to save space
- Roll up your clothes instead of folding them. It will be easier to stuff them into an empty space in your suitcase.
- Place your socks and undergarments inside your shoes.
- Call your hotel beforehand to check if they have an iron and a hair dryer.
- Put all your liquids such as shampoo, lotion or hairspray in plastic bags so they don’t spill.
- If your suitcase is too full, ask you family and friends if they have room to pack extra wedding accessories in their suitcases.
