Planning a wedding can be a
toxic mix of decisions, money
disagreements and hurt feelings, but
it needn’t be.
Take step one:
• Get enough sleep.
• Eat well and exercise regularly.
• Avoid too-intensive diet regimens.
Continue with step two:
• Have date-nights with your fiancé.
• Have romantic weekends away.
• Remember that the wedding is one
day. The relationship is forever.
Move on to step three:
• Encourage your fiancé to be a full
partner throughout the planning.
• Don’t criticize each other.
• Avoid confrontation with those who
give unsolicited advice. Listen politely
and then disregard.
• Make decisions, one at a time, and
move on.
• Deal with reputable, experienced
suppliers.
Keep your cool!
Dr. Mary Preisman, a
newlywed and chief psychiatry
resident at Mount Sinai
hospital, advises couples to
remember why they are getting
married in the first place: to
celebrate their love.
Since planning a wedding has
deadlines and expectations, it’s
easy to feel stressed. “You need
good organizational skills, but
if this isn’t your strength, share
the work and the decisionmaking with family and friends.”
