Every wedding should have a theme. It may be a colour, a period in history or it may be a season. To make the most of your wedding season here are all of the details you’ll need to know to plan your wedding for any time of year.
Spring: Pretty pastels with dove grey side by side with soft pink, mauve, delicate blues and greens.
Spring flowers:
- Peonies, sweetpea, tulips, daffodils, forsythia, cherry blossoms, roses.
Details:
- Invitations introduce the seasonal theme.
- Bridesmaids dresses repeat the colour theme.
- Decor can include flower centrepieces or perhaps fresh fruit as a centrepiece for guests to munch on.
Summer: Colours of summer are fresh and brighter than spring. Think fresh mauves, greens, yellow, salmon and steel grey.
Summer flowers:
- Daisies, freesia, gladioli, Queen Anne’s Lace, snapdragons, sunflowers, roses.

- Invitations might have a floral design.

Autumn: Rich fall colours can be the theme for autumn: shades of brown, orange, forest green, coral and crimson.

- Consider a country or barn setting.
- Have the colour theme emphasized in bridesmaids dresses.
- Branches of coloured leaves clustered in 4″ bowls.
- Flickering candles flanking the centrepieces.
Winter: Create a winter wonderland with white on white, lots of silvery glitter and even faux snow.
Winter flowers:
- Berries, camellias, holly, evergreens, pointsettia, jasmine, roses.
Details:
- Artificial trees with white lights throughout the room.
- Poinsettia flanked by red candles as table centrepieces.
- Perhaps have a platter of various cheeses on each table for guests to nibble on.
Holidays
A wedding that is close to a major holiday can embrace that holiday and build their theme and decor around it. Example: If it is close to Christmas, have a decorated Christmas tree. A red overlay can be placed over long white tablecloths. The guest favours (perhaps a gingerbread man) might be gift-wrapped in Christmas paper. After-dinner mints in red and green or small candy canes can be placed on every table.
