We turned to one of the biggest names in the business for bridal fashion advice. Here, designer Pnina Tornai dishes on what’s new and now in wedding gowns.
Say “Yes” to the Trends
Wedding gown designer Pnina Tornai has dressed countless brides – from the everyday woman to royalty. She is perhaps most famous for her appearances on Say Yes to the Dress, based out of Kleinfeld Bridal in New York. Her gowns are now available at Kleinfeld in Toronto.
Her goal, as with all major designers, is to create dresses that make brides a vision of perfection. “Designers want to make brides feel that they are living a dream come true. Every time a dress is designed, designers are aware that it is to be worn on the most important day of a bride’s life.”
Pnina credits herself with being on the leading edge of bridal fashion (she created gowns with illusion detail and open backs five years before the trend really took off).
These days, the trends include open backs, back detail, cap sleeves, illusion fabrics, playing with lace and netting and using beading.
A strapless dress is no longer an automatic choice as newer and perhaps more flattering options make their appearance.
