Hailey was born in Toronto but lives in Australia, where she met Drew. He was born in Scotland but his family moved to Australia when he was 17. Although he proposed to Hailey in Edinburgh, they were married in Toronto. Friends came from around the world to share their day: Scotland, England, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, New Zealand, Hong Kong, U.S.A. and across Canada. The week before the wedding, a yellow school bus spearheaded an excursion to Niagara Falls and the couple also hosted 100 guests and family at a Canada Day Blue Jays game.
Hailey and Drew entertained their guests at the Steam Whistle Hall in the historic Roundhouse at the foot of the iconic CN Tower. At the service, the bride was piped down the aisle and then the traditional Scottish knot tying ceremony was performed. The groom’s family tartan was on one side and the bride’s family tartan on the other.
At the reception, food was a priority; it was both creative and informal with starters such as haggis balls, crispy pork belly on steamed buns and fire roasted shrimp followed by food stations of jambalaya, cajun fish taco bar, BBQ rib eye butcher block and fresh corn. Desserts included Nutella bombs and a homemade ice cream sandwich station. There was an open-flame s’mores station on the patio in the evening and servers passed savoury snacks such as bacon rolls (a Scottish tradition) and gourmet poutine late into the night.
