James and Trisha met in 2009 through mutual friends, and have been together ever since. Their engagement story is perhaps a bit unusual as there was no surprise proposal. The couple just decided to get married.
Here’s where the story gets exciting. A family friend in the jewellery business, who created the bride’s mother’s engagement ring and three of the bride’s aunts’ engagement rings, also designed Trisha’s engagement ring. Trisha and James say they wouldn’t have had it any other way. The couple was so happy to carry on that family tradition.
The bride and groom contacted the ring designer, and the ring was then made in New York City. It was fitting given that NYC was one of the first places James and Trisha travelled together and remains one of their favourite cities. So the couple ended up bringing a “New York City” theme to their wedding.
One of the couple’s favourite wedding moments was cutting the cake with the bride’s grandfather’s Naval sword. This has also been a long-standing tradition in my family. “Unfortunately, my grandparents have passed and were not able to be there with us but it was nice to pay tribute to them with this tradition,” says Trisha.
The New York City theme was the couple’s favourite wedding detail. The bride had fun with the theme on several trips to NYC for inspiration. “The New Yorker magazine covers, displayed as table numbers, from street vendors in front of The Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue was just one way we brought the theme to life,” says Trisha. “The theme carried over into the wedding favors and décor and was the inspiration behind the glitzy bridesmaid dresses and the “big city feel” we tried to capture in our photos.”
