When Diana and Joris fell in love, timing was everything. The two met while working for a major cruise line in 2008. Although they were attracted to one another they decided to put their feelings on hold and just be friends as they didn’t know if they would see each other once Joris went on a two month leave. As fate would have it, the company asked Diana to stay and, when Joris returned, the two knew right away that they would be together.
The day was made even more special with Diana’s 90-year-old grandmother able to attend and share in the day’s festivities. The couple also loved the handwritten vows they shared with one another – these same vows proved to be the most difficult part of the wedding process! “We had so much to say to one another, but you have to limit it to a small amount,” explained the bride.
The Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier in North Vancouver, BC played host to the July 25, 2012 wedding where the couple’s love of travel took centre stage. Red and orange were their colours representing Diana’s Canadian heritage and Joris’ home in the Netherlands. Their favourite detail was the décor, with each table named after a place they had been together – South Africa, Greece, Italy, Australia and Costa Rica. In the centre of each table a picture frame stood on top of an atlas with a map of the location and the name. Around the table were photos they had taken at that place.
