Tell me a bit about your love story: We met at a mutual friend’s new year’s party. By the time the clock struck midnight, we really hit it off. We started dating shortly after and have been together ever since. We travelled the world together, lived abroad for a few years and shared amazing adventures Two years ago on Christmas Eve, Aleksander asked me to marry him. We said “I do” on September 17, 2021 at our cottage in Huntsville surrounded by our closest family and friends.
Was this your original plan for your wedding? We always knew that we wanted a small and intimate wedding. However, if circumstances were different, we would definitely invite more guests to join us from abroad. We did not have to change plans as we decided not to make any wedding plans for some time, considering the situation in the world. However, we did have to keep our guest list very small. But in the end, the whole day felt very warm and intimate, which is what we hoped for.
What was your favourite part of the day? Walking down the aisle to “Cant Help Falling in Love” played on a violin by a live musician. I also really enjoyed Aleksander’s entrance – our friend brought him in on a boat to our dock (where the ceremony took place), which was a surprise for all the guests.
Favourite wedding detail? I loved my dress (I took a risk and ordered it online and I felt like it was even better than I expected), Aleksander’s suit and my bridal bouquet. I had a very specific colour scheme (buttery yellows and whites) and shape in mind, and Nicole from Perfect Petals nailed it.
What will guests remember most about the day? I think they will remember how fun, easy going and care free the day was. Our celebrations consisted of two parts: the ceremony and cocktail hour at our cottage, and the after-party at a restaurant in Huntsville. We arranged for the guests to travel to the restaurant by boat to experience the beauty that Muskoka has to offer.
What advice can you give to couples planning a cottage wedding? Hosting such an important event in an intimate setting is incredibly special and creates memories for years to come. My advice would be to work with a wedding planner who has a lot of great local vendor contacts, as each part of the celebration will need to be arranged separately and not as a package deal. While this means more planning, it is absolutely worth it, as the end result is an entirely unique celebration.
